Summer had an early start this year in Mumbai and the country. We all know that our planet is facing numerous environmental challenges, from climate change to plastic pollution leading to global warming resulting in the early onset of garmi.

While these issues can seem overwhelming, we can all take small steps in our daily lives to help make a positive impact on the environment.

Here are some small things you can do for the environment:

Reduce plastic usage: We all know plastic waste is a major contributor to pollution, and reducing your usage can make a big difference. Start by using a reusable water bottle, coffee cup, and grocery bag. We can carry this on a hot summer when we are out and save our landfills one bottle at a time.

Cleanup Drives: Help out by cleaning the environment around you. We have started an initiative — Saaf Safai Sundays, where you by sparing a few hours on a Sunday will create a huge impact on the world. Mumbaikars, Delhiwalo, and Punekars, join us for our upcoming world earth day cleanup drives on Sunday, 23rd April.

Conserve water: Simple actions like turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth or taking shorter showers can greatly impact water conservation.

Plant trees and plants: Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change. Consider planting a plant in your balcony or help out by participating in local reforestation efforts. (Our Partner NGO Muskurate Raho conducts tree restoration drives at Aarey Forests, Mumbai!)

Compost: You can do something as simple as composting. Composting food scraps can reduce waste and provide nutrient-rich soil for gardening. You could use your homemade compost for your own plants as well!

Internships: You can save the environment by interning? What?!

Interning onsite or virtually for Non-Profits working for the environment sector will help you work on your skills while also helping the NGO raise awareness about the environment and their cause.

If you’re someone who is from Mumbai, our Partner NGO, Future Recyclers Foundation, works in the field of waste management with a keen focus on composting, is looking for someone who could help manage their social media platforms & curate online campaigns for awareness.

Reduce paper usage: Go paperless whenever possible, and opt for digital documents and receipts. When you do need to print or write, use both sides of the paper. (We are guilty of using the good side of the paper too :p)

Buy sustainable products: Something small that we can do is look for products that are sustainably produced and packaged, and support companies with strong environmental values.

In conclusion, there are numerous small things we can all do to make a positive impact on the environment. By making conscious choices in our daily lives, we can help to reduce waste, conserve resources, and protect our planet for future generations.
