Rain showers, fresh air, bird calls, lush green mountains, water stream, outdoors, loads of enthusiasm — Sunday mornings should be like this! CF VicTree 2.0 — the Tree Plantation drive by ConnectFor in collaboration with Hariyali, Thane was a perfect kick-start for my work association at ConnectFor. I felt content for the little yet useful contribution I could make.

It made me happy to see volunteers across age groups from different walks of life come together for the tree plantation drive. CF VicTree 2.0 brought us all back to nature — a connection that is almost lost in today’s world. I can’t remember the last time I got my hands dirty in the mud, got wet in the rains, crossed a stream, and looked at the green grass. I am glad I could witness it all amidst the concrete jungle through. There were a bunch of college students, friends, mothers with their kids, individual volunteers, work colleagues and in total ConnectFor volunteers planted 140 saplings in 2 hours. Nothing could deter the volunteers — they were self-motivated, full of energy & enthusiasm.

Planting a tree is a symbolism of planting hope for ourselves, hope for future generations to come and hope for this planet. With proper nurture and care everyone can reap the benefits. A big shoutout to the Hariyali team, a group of senior people organizing tree plantation drives in Rabale, Tetavali (Near Navi Mumbai). They were on their toes right from orienting the volunteers, providing equipments & saplings, helping us cross the stream, and motivating the volunteers throughout the event. Their energy was contagious.

The sparks of energy and excitement almost doubled as the day proceeded. After wrapping up at the Tree Plantation Drive, the entire CF team were off to the next event of the day. We were approached by a girl, Foram Thakkar, who wanted to celebrate her 25th birthday with 80 of her friends and 80 little kids from ang NGO. We successfully connected 82 kids from the Candle Project for this event and planted smiles on these innocent faces. The kids had a great time participating in all the different activities that were well thought out and planned by the birthday girl e.g tattoo making, bookmark making, juggler, balloons, games, dance and refreshments. The presence of Hamleys India for too this celebrate to another other level. Two of Hamleys members were standing at the entrance of the venue with bubble guns — the childrens’ expressions is something I don’t think any of us, that were present, could forget. Hamleys India was very kind to send their bear mascot which was a big hit amongst the kids.

Foram wanted to make the kids feel special for the day, and make them feel like she was celebrating their birthday. This made the kids’ day as she organized and lined up 82 cupcakes with candles on it on a table. Along with the cupcakes she organized for a return gift to give each child, which was a cherry on top that day.

Growing children and growing trees need the same amount of affection, care and nurture. Both are blessings to mankind!
