BE THOSE HELPERS

We live in strange times. I’m sure this isn’t the first or the last time we will hear this. We’ve definitely seen our fair share of DIYs, how to quarantine, and of course banana bread! As Fred Rogers’ said “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping”.

Well here’s some tried and tested ways to be those people:

  1. Sign up for virtual volunteering. There are numerous NGOs who could really use all the extra help be it blogging, database management or even sharing their fundraisers within your network.

2. Go local: This pandemic has really brought the importance of communities and localization to the forefront. Ask the people who have been helping you all these years, be it the security guards in your building, your house help or even seniors in the building. The number one rule to help is to ask if there’s any way you can help in. They might just need some tech related help which wouldn’t even take 2 minutes of your time. But trust me it will make their day.

3. Lastly, check-in with people and genuinely ask them about their overall well being. Mental health has also been overlooked in our society but now more than ever we need to talk about not being happy all the time.
